MOSCOW Soviet explorer Yevgeny Tolstikov, 74, who led several pioneering expeditions to the Antarctic, died here. Tolstikov gained renown during World War II for his polar flights and later made geographical discoveries in the arctic and Antarctic. He headed the third Soviet expedition to the Antarctic and trained many other Soviet polar explorers. Tolstikov was vice president of the official Friendship Society with Norway. BERLIN Peter Lorenz, 64, a conservative politician who was kidnapped by leftwing terrorists in 1975, died of a heart attack.

Lorenz, who had served as parliamentary state secretary in Chancellor Helmut Kohl's government, was kidnapped by three West German extremists while he was on his way to his Berlin office in February 1975. He was released six days later after authorities agreed to demands to allow five imprisoned West German terrorists to fly to South Yemen.
