1, 1968 Bullion Market Reacts to 'Halt' LONDON, ENGLAND (AP) Word of the U.S. bombing halt in North Vietnam sent gold and silver prices down on the London bullion market Friday but the pound sterling advanced in early dealings. The price of gold fell about 40 cents to $38.65 an ounce. Silver dropped to $1.86 an ounce, a loss of between 6 and 9 cents. International peace moves traditionally hit gold and silver, which are used as a hedge against world unrest.

On the London foreign exchange market the pound advanced to $2.3919, up from $2.3910 at Thursday's close.
