Diemand ex- civic leader, at 91 WENDELL Albert Joseph Diemand 91, of 126 Mormon Hollow Road, a longtime farmer and civic leader, died Tuesday at home. He served on the Swift River School Building, Committee in New Salem and the Franklin County Technical School Committee and belonged to the Democratici: Town Committee and the Golden Age Club. He was a director and past president of the 4-H Club's Camp. Howe for many years.

He held the Boston Post goldheaded cane as the town's oldest citizen and was named the Greenfield Recorder's citizen of the year 1n 1996. He was a former member of the Moose and a past town civil defense director. He organized fund-raising barbecues for the Passionist Monastery in West Springfield, Camp Howe and area churches. He was the founder and owner Diemand Farm. Born and schooled in New Britain, he lived in Wendell since 1940.

He was a salesman for Fuller Brush worked at Greenfield Tap Die Co. and was the traffic manager at Keeney Manufacturing Co. of Newington, Conn. 19 le was a communicant and minister of St. John's Church in the Millers Falls section of Montague for many years and a fourth-degree member of the Bishop Philip Garrigan Assembly of the Knights of Columbus.

Michael DePalo AGAWAM Michael DePalo, of this city, died Tuesday at Olympus Specialty Hospital in Springfield. He was a longtime upholsterer and retired in 1988. He started in 1925 with Hampden Parlor Furniture Co. and worked later for Barkley Upholstery Co. bf Chicopee.

Born in Bari, Italy, he came to this country in 1910 and settled in Howe Caverns, N.Y. He moved later moved to Hudson Falls, N.Y., and came to Springfield in 1920. A World War II combat infantry veteran, he served in the: 339th Infantry Regiment of the 85th Infantry Division in the Mediterranean Theater. He fought in the Rome-Arno, North Apennine and Po Valley campaigns in 1944-45 and received the Combat Infantryman Badge and European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. A lifeone member of the Adriatic Club, was a former club secretary and its bocce team captain.

He was a past secretary of the Italian-American Bocce League. His wife of 53 years, the former Anna Montefusco, died in 1993, and a daughter, Esther DePalo, in 1986. He leaves a daughter, Patricia Liquore, and two brothers, Toseph and Thomas, all of Agawam; and a sister, Sara Gothier of Springfield. The funeral will be Friday morning at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home of Agawam and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, both in Springfield.

of 189 Essex Street in the Indian Orchard section, died Friday at Baystate Medical' Center. Born in Riverhead, Long Island, N.Y., he was a longtime Holyoke resident. He a 1996 graduate of Holyoke High School and played basketball, track and football. He was a member of New Hope Church of God in Christ in Holyoke. He moved here two years ago and was a member of the Army Reserve.

He leaves his wife, the former Brenda Ramos, and a son, Donovan, of Indian Orchard; his parents, Barbara (Brown) Yates and James Yates of Holyoke: his father, Lester-Langhorne of Riverhead; three brothers, Antonio Brown of San Diego, and Cortnei Langhorne and Terrance Yates, both of Holyoke; a sister, Selena Yates of Holyoke; his grandparents, Mary Brown of Holyoke and Levi Langhorne of Riverhead; three step-brothers, Lester Langhorne of Riverhead, James Yates of Holyoke and James D. Yates of Springfield; and a step-sister, Dionesia Yates of Springfield. The funeral will be Friday afternoon in the church, with burial in Forestale Cemetery.
