Consoles are cut out for shooters, too! Dive into these incredible FPS games on PlayStation 5 and see for yourself!
There is an often-reignited debate about the best way to play shooters. Some people say it is with a controller, while others argue it is with a mouse and keyboard, with the general consensus usually learning towards the typical PC combo. Despite that, console players can't complain about the lack of amazing FPS games on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, or even older consoles.
At GG.deals, we firmly believe that the platform you play on is secondary to the sheer joy of the game itself - though we’ll admit that we do rack up more headshots on our PCs. However, if you’ve recently gotten your hands on a Sony console and are curious about the best FPS games on PS5, we’re more than happy to share our top picks with you. And while precision on consoles might take a slight hit, nothing quite compares to the comfort of lounging on your couch, feet up, with a controller in hand and a big screen full of baddies to shoot in front of you!
What are the best first-person shooter games on PlayStation 5?
We totally get that. With so many shooting games out there, picking just ten is no easy feat. That’s why we’ve made sure our list covers all the bases. While our main focus is fun and action, we have included titles that offer both neck-breaking fast gameplay as well as those with a more measured pace and a deeper narrative. We have also aimed to cater to both those of you who relish the thrill of playing with, or against friends, but also those who love solitary, single-player adventures. And hey, continuing our tradition of making your wallets happy, we have also thrown in some amazing free-to-play FPS games. So, good hunting— or rather, good being hunted — because we’re kicking things off with…
10. Deathloop
Hold up — you're probably thinking - isn’t Deathloop that so-so game from Arkane Studios?" Well, sort of, but not quite. The concept of a time-looped open world filled with baddies that we need to eliminate and a super assassin trying to stop us from doing it sounds like a blast - at least on paper. Understandably, the expectations were sky-high, but sadly, the game didn’t quite hit the mark.
But here’s the thing: we believe Deathloop got a bit of a rough deal. Sure, it can get a tad repetitive, but it still serves up a solid mix of a captivating story and action-packed gameplay. Toss in some eye-catching, uniquely stylized graphics and the freedom to tackle your targets however you like, and you’ll see why we’re giving Arkane Studios' creation a spot on our list, even if it’s just at number 10.

9. Far Cry 6
Sliding into the number 9 spot on our list is Far Cry 6. It's Ubisoft’s latest adventure in their globe-trotting shooter series, which sends us to breathtaking places and lets us kill some insanely delusional ruler-wannabes. It's not different this time, as we're transported to a sun-soaked, Cuba-esque Caribbean Island with a simple mission—to create a rebel movement against a ruthless dictator.
Don’t get us wrong, we really enjoyed Far Cry 6. Sure, the game occasionally dives headfirst into some delightfully absurd territory, like giving us a jetpack or a trained attack rooster sidekick. A more objective gripe is that the franchise is getting slightly stale after six entries. However, if you don’t mind the crazy aspects and the lack of innovation, the game offers a genuinely thrilling experience. With its over-the-top gunfights, intense stealth missions, and stunning visuals that could easily land it on our list of some of the best-looking PS5 games, Far Cry 6 is a game current-gen console owners should definitely try out.

8. Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2 is often considered one of the best PS5 and PS4 shooters, which might come as a surprise to some. After all, it's seemingly just a simple sci-fi shooting game about a guy piloting a cutting-edge AI-bolstered mech. Yeah, it might offer a lot of gunfights, but that be enough?
Truth be told, Titanfall 2 is much more than just sleek, intense combat. Don't worry, you are still going to be wreaking havoc both as the parkouring soldier Jack Cooper and his huge metal-clad titan companion BT. However, the main selling point of the game turns out to be the compelling and emotionally engaging narrative that follows the relationship between the protagonist and his mech. By the end of the campaign, you'll be rooting for the duo and honestly feeling like a part of a great team.

7. Call of Duty (Modern Warfare III and Warzone)
If you’re the type of gamer who loves communicating with friends or trolling enemies during online shootouts, you can't go wrong with one of the kings of online shooters: Call of Duty. But if you're hunting for a fast-paced multiplayer FPS on PS5, you might be torn between Warzone and Modern Warfare III. If so, let us break it down for you.
For those craving a battle royale experience, Warzone is the way to go. This massive multiplayer mode focuses on scavenging for cash and taking out other squads on an ever-shrinking map, delivering intense, sweat-inducing gameplay. Plus, Warzone has an additional bonus of being free, making your wallet as happy as you are.
On the flip side, if you’re into classic multiplayer modes like team deathmatch or large-scale battles, Modern Warfare III is your best bet. It brings back the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer experience, as well as a single-player campaign. However, while MWIII includes a campaign mode, it’s worth noting that the story is lackluster and quite short, clocking in at around 5 hours. So, you won’t miss much if you decide to skip it.

6. Prodeus
"Oh," you might exclaim, glancing at Prodeus screenshots, "it's one of those boomer shooters stylized after retro games my pops used to play, right?" Well, yes, but there's nothing wrong with that! While it boasts a nostalgic, pixelated style, this indie gem deserves its spot on our list for delivering high-octane gunfights that will make any shooter fan's heart race.
To fully grasp the game, let's first dive into its intricate story... just kidding! Prodeus keeps it simple, with a bone-dry plot that sets you on a mission to destroy the titular god-like antagonist. The real focus here is on the action as you blaze through levels filled with waves of demonic enemies that explode in gloriously gory fashion when hit with shotguns, rocket launchers, or even your bare fists. Add to it the retro-level design, packed with secrets, rewarding curious and adventurous players, and you'll see why this indie title is a must-play for all fans of games like Doom. And if you love supporting small developers who create dazzling, triple-A-quality games on a budget, be sure to check out our list of amazing indie games.

5. Metro: Exodus
Kicking off the second part of our list of the best FPS games on PlayStation 5 is a post-apocalyptic gem. However, don’t expect to be crawling out of an underground Vault and gleefully blasting ghouls and raiders while wearing a ridiculously tight, blue spandex suit. Instead, get ready for a more gritty, narrative-driven journey across a devastated, post-nuclear world in search of a new home. Enter Metro: Exodus.
This game continues the saga of Artyom, picking up where the previous installments left off. The protagonist, along with his comrades, traverses the Russian metro systems filled with post-war survivors, warring factions, mutants, and even more sinister, unexplainable threats. This time, however, the adventure expands above ground, as Metro: Exodus takes us on an epic and perilous odyssey in search of a new home in the irradiated wilderness.

4. Apex Legends
Interestingly enough, number 4 on our list is like the perfect blend of two other entries, combining elements from both to create an exceptional experience. Imagine a game that beautifully merges the battle royale mode with massive maps and cooperative squad gameplay reminiscent of Warzone, along with the fluid, engaging gunfights and parkouring mechanics of Titanfall 2. Now, stop imagining and just download Apex Legends.
A quick heads-up: while Apex Legends is a fantastic shooting game with intense, fast-paced action, its online, competitive nature might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But hey, just like the free PS5 games we’ve listed here, Legends is free to download, so there’s no harm in giving it a shot. If you are up for some intense, breakneck gameplay experience and have a few friends to back you up, the Respawn Entertainment masterpiece is definitely worth checking out!

3. Borderlands 3
Ah, since we’ve already dived into games best enjoyed with that rare, elusive treasure known as friends, let’s turn our attention to the third spot on our list. Unironically, it goes to Borderlands 3, a title that stands out as one of the best, most satisfying, and downright bonkers co-op games with loot grinding.
While Borderlands 3 builds on the legacy of its predecessors, you don’t really need any prior knowledge to dive into its wild, visually explosive gunfights and loot-hoarding mechanics. The essentials are simple: You team up with an eccentric band of misfits obsessed with finding treasures and delivering terrible one-liners. Your main mission? To thwart a pair of villainous twins who want to turn the galaxy into their personal playground. The plot might be a bit of a sideshow, but the real star is the over-the-top gameplay, which is four times more fun when shared with friends in some crazy, split-screen, co-op action. And if somehow, this one doesn’t sit well with you, here are morePS5 couch-coop games that we would recommend.

2. Destiny 2
If you still want to explore the galaxy, visit stunningly diverse worlds, and loot so much gear it feels like you're dragging a sack of bricks but prefer to swap out the wacky humor for a more grandiose and cinematic experience, we have a treat for you! Enter Destiny 2, Bungie’s free-to-play shooter that delivers a treasure trove of loot, deep lore, and an epic soundtrack that makes every moment feel larger than life.
The best part about Destiny 2 is that, despite its wealth of content, it's free to play. Sure, Bungie has released a slew of paid DLCs, but the base game itself offers more than enough to keep you and your friends engrossed for many hours. If that's not enough for you though, there are other amazing looting-based games that we have gathered for you here.

1. Doom Eternal
As we mentioned earlier, sifting through the vast array of shooting games to find the best single-player first-person shooter on PS5 was no easy task. In the end, though, we looked at the title and were struck by the phrase "action-packed," which led us to a glaringly obvious choice. Can anything really be more "action-packed" than slashing, shooting, and tearing through endless waves of demonic foes, all set to a pounding, adrenaline-fueled metal soundtrack? Debate us in the comments, but for now, let’s welcome the undisputed champion of our list - none other than Doom Eternal.
We absolutely adore Doom Eternal, and for good reason. It truly seems to have few, if any, real flaws—except maybe that it’s not for everyone. Beyond that, it excels on every front: the graphics and level design are stellar, the action is delightfully more arcade-like than its predecessor, the music revs up your adrenaline, and the glory kills are always oh-so-satisfying. If you're a potential Doom player, you’re in for an exhilarating ride with no complaints in sight.
