TLDR

New Features in Destiny 2: The Final Shape (5)What Redditors are Saying

What's New in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

TL;DR

  • Exotic armor can be obtained through Rahool by focusing engrams [1:1]
  • Lost sectors now drop exotic engrams [1:6]
  • The Final Shape expansion has received positive reviews from players [2:2], [2:3]
  • The Triumph Score is for fun and does not have a specific purpose [3:1]
  • Power level can be increased by playing various activities and obtaining higher-level gear [3:9]
  • The story of Cayde and Savathun can be experienced through the legendary campaign missions [3:6]
  • The future of Destiny 2 beyond The Final Shape is unknown, but there may be more content and a possible Destiny 3 in the works [4:1], [4:2], [4:3]

Obtaining Exotic ArmorTo obtain exotic armor, players can focus engrams through Rahool. However, this method only allows focusing on armor that has already been acquired [1:2]. Lost sectors are another source of exotic engrams [1:6].

Reception of The Final ShapeThe Final Shape expansion has received positive reviews from players, with some comparing it to previous expansions like Forsaken and The Witch Queen [2:2], [2:3]. However, opinions may vary, and it's recommended to watch YouTube content or read guides for more detailed information [2:10].

Triumph Score and Power LevelThe Triumph Score is primarily for fun and does not serve a specific purpose [3:1]. Power level can be increased by playing various activities and obtaining higher-level gear [3:9].

Future of Destiny 2While the light and dark saga may be over with The Final Shape, the future of Destiny 2 beyond this expansion is uncertain. Bungie has not announced any plans for Destiny 3, but there may be more content and story arcs to explore in the game [4:1], [4:2], [4:3].

Title says it. Before it was Legend Lost sectors but now it works through Rahool right? But I can only focus armor that I've already acquired. What's the grind now?

I reset rahool and both new ones were locked and said 'unlock item in collections to purchase.'

I ended up finishing warlords ruin quest and got the boots, and the chest piece from campaign legendary.

So you are telling me they took all these old exotic i just paid for, off the loot pool and locked them behind 17 ranks of rahool? really....

Wow.. that is insanely restrictive for new players who are looking for exotic armor for builds or even casual player who dont have as much play time , it makes getting new exotic armor almost unattainable..

3

upvotes on reddit

C

ChiveBucket · 1 month ago

Well, the pervious methods were Legendary or Master lost sectors Solo, Vex net incursions on Neomuna, or completing a legendary campaign if the exotic was a reward...which were arguably way more restrictive for new players due to difficulty or randomness. The new method really just requires you to Play the game anyway you want, or optimize by doing ritual Playlist activities...

Not only is this page for exotic focus decoding so easy to overlook, buying a new exotic using an exotic cipher is an instant buy. not even a slow "hold to purchase" thing. i unfortunately misslicked trying to inspect a piece of exotic armor i already had and it just bought it. good job bungie.

I rest my rank with Rahool and got the new chest piece for my warlock, but it won't let me buy the other new exotic, says it must be in inventory. Do I have to reset him again to buy the other new exotic?

Do the ritual activities (strikes/crucible/Gambit ) . You can do strikes 9 times to get 3 exotic engrams . Season pass ranks . Global drop etc

Up there with witch queen, maybe up with forsaken too. Honestly just so good. And the best part is that this isn’t even the end! We still have the raid and 8th mission to go

Honestly so far in my opinion the dlc is just as good as what forsaken was its right there next to witch queen in terms of how amazing it is definitely way better than lightfall

Not even close..only story wise but still far from it. Story campaign is 4 hrs and 6 plus if it's legendary. After you beat it tje entirety of the dlc is replaying the story missions.

New and returning player guides, and FAQ! The Final Shape has arrived!

Posted by Hatherence · in r/destiny2 · 1 month ago

#Click here for our highly detailed, very in depth new player guide!

My very brief new player advice

Bungie's official new player guide

Summary of major gameplay changes over the years, for returning players

Guide summarizing every monetization option with a "what should I buy" FAQ at the bottom. The monetization just gets more convoluted with time! Read this if you are confused on what to buy, or what each purchase would get you.

(Disclaimer: I cannot play for the time being. My guides, the ones on Steam, are not yet up to date for The Final Shape but I will try to get those done by the end of the week. I made this post to replace the earlier pinned post now that The Final Shape is out.)

I got the old Legacy bundle with the Epic store giveaway in December and started playing the tutorial on Sunday. Is it no longer relevant and kind of pointless? I see it is now $60 for the 2024.

I want to do almost exclusively PVE. Do I just follow the guide and buy The Final Shape since it's the current expansion as my way to get into Destiny and just get additional stuff from there? The 30th anniversary is on sale for a few bucks.

Edit:, I could switch to Steam and get the legacy collection 2024 there.

I think that the Legacy 2024 vs Prior Legacy has 30th anniversary, Foresaken, and Lightfall added to it.

upvotes on reddit

H

Hatherence · 1 month ago

What you should buy comes down to what you want. What would you want from The Final Shape that you do not get from the earlier expansions? Like for example, do you want it for Prismatic? Are you into raiding, because you need The Final Shape for the newest raid which is a big deal among hardcore pve players. Do not feel like you need to get it just because it's new. This isn't WoW, being new doesn't inherently mean you need it for some kind of barrier to entry. It's just that it has all the latest pve activities which pve-focused players are typically interested in.

Content ownership is per platform, but if you have already played enough of what you have on Epic, you don't necessarily need to re-buy it all on Steam. For instance, I got the free 30th anniversary pack on Epic, and I got all the items that I wanted from it and then uninstalled the Epic version of Destiny 2 because I don't feel the need to play Grasp of Avarice any more. But if you still like to do all the older paid raids you would need to either keep the Epic installation of D2 or you would need to re-buy everything on Steam.

upvotes on reddit

SpicinessIsHappiness · 1 month ago

I guess I was under the impression that all the old stuff I would have access to would be too easy due to the power creep. Probably just too much research trying to make sense of all the DLC options pre-final format and after as a new player.

So, as a returning player, what is the purpose of the 'Triumph Score'? Is the crucibal still full of sweaty try-hards?
What is a good way to build up my power level.. again?
Is there a way to play the full story for Cayde and Savathuuun?

what is the purpose of the 'Triumph Score'?

It's just for fun.

What is a good way to build up my power level.. again?

I don't know when you last played, but power level works similar to how it did back in 2018. The way power level works has been unchanged for about three years now. This page explains it, but the numbers are all higher now because of The Final Shape. Ignore any seasonal content listed on this page, since that has all been removed. Scroll down to the section "How to reach Max Power Level in Destiny 2" for an explanation.

Is there a way to play the full story for Cayde and Savathuuun?

No, The Red War and Forsaken which both have Cayde have been removed from the game. Season pass storylines have been removed from the game. Witch Queen introduced Savathun as a character we actually meet and is a permanent part of the game so you can play that story in its entirety.

Two questions:
1.I beat legendary campaign on a completely random build, and my friend does miles more damage than me. What’s the go to recommendation for learning to build properly? I’d like to get into raids.
2.After Icol…? The fight where you kill two subjugators while the witness attacks you, how much more content would I need to complete before the raid, in terms of a continuous story? Don’t want to spoil anything for myself.

Thanks!

if you finished the legendary campaign you only should do the destined heroes exotic quest and the Wild card exotic quest (which you unlock after step 4 of destined heroes)

best way to learn is to watch youtube content. We are now in a phase when a lot of new stuff was added with prismatic so new builds are being discovered. Ehroar, Llama, and Aztecross are good for beginners.

Should I get new gear (specifically armor) to upgrade, or is my fully upgraded lightfall gear ok to power up?

Hatherence · 1 month ago

I don't have any idea what items you have, so here's a vague and general answer:

  • You should have a variety of weapons available. I typically recommend at a bare minimum people have a set of weapons for boss DPS and a set of weapons for crowd clearing, and if you want, a set of pvp weapons. Mix and match these depending on what you're going to do at any given time.

  • Power level doesn't matter as much as you may think. Individual activities have their own power levels, which it will say if you hover over an activity. Being vastly overpowered doesn't have much benefit, but being underpowered makes this MUCH harder.

  • Having a variety of weapons is useful for fulfilling certain objectives, like if you have a bounty or something to kill enemies using a specific item. It's not necessary to upgrade weapons to a higher power if this is all you use them for.

  • When it comes to armor pieces, what people look for are the stats. If you like the stats on your armor, feel free to stick with it long term. I like to switch up the exotic armor I use, so I have a few sets of armor to make sure I have items that go with every combination I commonly use.

i beg to differ in this case. I had a very pleasant experience and i think Destiny 2 does this in particular pretty well compared to other games.

You have a pretty good overview ingame about the last happenings, you can replay compacted versions of expansion content. Dunno in general i had a good experience and i wish other games would do this.

Doubtful. They would have announced it. It takes years. This expansion is only good for this year, so there’s more that needs to be in between now and a new game. And they won’t give us all this stuff to take it away again

They would have announced it. It takes years.

They didn't announce D2 until a few month before release. Just because they haven't announced it doesn't mean they aren't working on it.

And they won’t give us all this stuff to take it away again

Again, they were working on D2 well in advance of before when RoI was announced. So they unveiled RoI knowing that that gear wouldn't be moving forward.

To be fair there are plenty of other story arcs which can be explored / revisited / expanded upon.

Shadowkeep and Beyond light’s campaigns as well as stasis will also be F2P permanently. The battlegrounds from the past year will also be F2P permanently and added to the vanguard playlist.

Those who own Lightfall will also gain the ability to play star crossed and the vexcalibur exotic mission in the rotator.

What happens to Light Level in Final Shape?

Posted by ProwlerCaboose · in r/DestinyTheGame · 1 month ago

What is happening to Light Level with final shape?

I'm not someone who regularly plays D2 because the grind and rng isn't for me but I do enjoy gaming with friends. Multiple of friends who played told me it was going away, some others just said it would get a final raise then go away, ans now I'm seeing images from pre-release showing Light Level 2000? I can't tell if 2000 is just the new default we all get moved to or is just everything going to be at 2k now or what?

I've tried looking around here and online and asking other players and I haven't gotten a straight answer so I figured I'd ask in here. Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you complete the campaign on Legendary difficulty, you’ll be rewarded with an entire gear set at 1960 Power (+20 into the Powerful band), giving you a great head start towards being raid-ready for Contest mode (1965 Power)! The resulting Power Bands in The Final Shape will be:

Power Floor: 1900

Base 2000 power level for nightfall for lowest tier is ridiculous. Same sh*t rewards (only ever decent on double reward weeks), pathfinder progression tied to playing and leveling activities you may not wanna play. The expansion may be great and all but the "quality of life" changes for the leveling and progression system seems like a regression imo.

Gameplay of Lightfall was pretty fun, especially with Strand. The story, however, could have done with some work.

I thought Lightfall played very well. It had the best seasons, great campaign missions, neomuna was good and challenging and the two unique events there were fun and rewarding.

The main narrative of the expansion and season of defiance had pretty bad stories. But Deep, Witch, and Wish were great.

They also knocked it out of the park with Onslaught and Pantheon.

I'm optimistic.

Idk, the fact that lightfall happened & that it was just last year is enough for me to temper my expectations, especially on the writing side of things.

I’m always hoping they prove me wrong because prismatic does look pretty dang good despite the limitations it’s gonna have at launch.

What happens after The Final Shape year?

Posted by SvenLorenz · in r/DestinyTheGame · 2 months ago

I know that we don't know anything about what will happen after the end of The Final Shape year, but what are people's thoughts on what might happen?

I see three possible scenarios:

  1. Just another enemy. Same character, same Tower, same Vault, same NPCs. It just goes on.
  2. Time jump. The Light and Darkness Saga concludes, it's a thousand years later, we make a new character, the Tower is an abandoned ruin, everyone we know is dead, new enemies, new NPCs, everything new.
  3. Change of scenery. Our character gets pulled through some anomaly or wormhole, it's still our guardian with our equipment, but there are new races, new worlds, new NPCs. Maybe, in future expansions, some of the old NPCs join us or we manage to get back to some old places.

I would like the second idea the most.

What do you think? What other ideas could there be?

The beginning of the last Bungie stream/vidoc Luke Smith said they'll let us know what comes next after The Final Shape. I imagine they don't want to spoil anything or draw away from the expansion.

One thing that's important is that the Vex have been sidelined for the past couple years realistically because they've been saving them to be the "next big bad" after The Witness. And because the Vex time travel, it allows for a very easy narrative hook for us to lose all of our stuff - Our Guardian acts like Elsie and jumps to another timeline, leaving all of our loot behind. Maybe Elsie would come with us too, giving us an explanation for who exactly Elsie was talking to in her intro cutscene in vanilla D1 (i.e., it was us from the future / another timeline).

It also is a useful hook because it lets Bungie re-use assets in a way that makes narrative sense. We'd still be fighting Cabal cause we haven't made friends with them yet, we'd still be fighting on Mars because it hasn't been frozen yet, etc.

To me it seems like the most plausible path forward that's actually interesting. The episodes will be us cleaning up loose ends (Xivu) and introducing the new threat of the Vex, and then D3 would start with us jumping into another timeline and soft-rebooting everything and starting our character's loot vault fresh

There will still be a few loose ends thay need to be dealt with after The Final Shape and the 3 Episodes.

Biggest one is Clovis Bray AI which we more or less left seething on Europa. I could see an episode where we've got to deal with whatever is still hidden deep within Europa.

One place I would like to see is us breech into the Distributary and find out what's happening within it. The way time passes, it could be a completely alien world for even Mara Sov to return to.

they confrimed in the Dev streams while yes Final shape is the end to the light and dark saga they are going to keep D2 going with new Stories. I think the first episode will be focusing on Prydith from the vault of glass. We got a hint of this is the Star crossed misision

I mean, they made all expansions and the last 4 seasons free for all players UNTIL final shape launch. After it launches it'll go back to the regular system of buying expansion.Idk about the rest.

I have no idea where you are getting your info. Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, and all 4 Lightfall seasons are free to play until The Final Shape releases. After TFS releases, Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns will be free to play as well as the stasis subclass.

It’s a free promo to get people back into the game.

After TFS launches, if you don’t own any of the content you are temporarily allowed to access, you’ll lose it.

That being said, Stasis was just made permanent if you unlock it.

Strand will be locked again after TFS launches if you don’t own Lightfall.

Any exotics or weapons or armor you earn are yours to keep forever though—-so play as much as you can.

You can only use stasis or strand if you own the Beyond Light or Lightfall campaigns. Right now everybody owns Beyond Light and therefore access to stasis. Everyone will keep that access to stasis forever. PS+ members have free access to Lightfall right now, and therefore access to strand. When Lightfall eventually comes off PS+ then those players will need to buy LF to keep using Strand.

Anybody who owns the DLCs outright now will own them forever

Whatever you heard doesn't sound quite right

Not sure if the lightfall dlc will have to be bought if it's already added to your ps+ list. As long as you have ps+ active you can access strand.

The final shape is going to be an epic battle that will shape our future. It involves lots of ships of various shapes, and fighting of hoards of misshapen enemies. We as guardians will take on a new form (a new shape), to defeat the Witness from bringing forth the Final Shape. The Final Shape we believe, is the Witness' plan to reshape our universe into "perfection" by basically destroying it. He plans to do so, by uniting our favorite shape, the Traveler, with the Veil and creating a new construct to bring about his plan.

Ritual Bounties Update in The Final Shape

Posted by Destiny2Team · in r/DestinyTheGame · 2 months ago

In The Final Shape, we’re introducing the Ritual Pathfinder, a new rewards path that will replace Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit bounties and their weekly vendor challenge. While the Pathfinder will replace bounties at these vendors, they will remain unchanged at other vendors.

We’ll have more info to share on the Pathfinder in the next couple of weeks. We wanted to give a heads up so everyone preparing for The Final Shape can prioritize how they spend their time. Any Ritual bounties held when The Final Shape releases on June 4 will be abandoned.

Pathfinder was original only going to be a feature for the Pale Heart destination at launch of TFS. They said it would eventually come to core activities but it's nice that the delay means we're just going to get the sweeping changes all at the same time. Part of the fun of new expansions for me is when it feels like there are so many changes and improvements to the game that I can't even keep up with it all. Destiny hasn't really had that since Forsaken so it's exciting that we are getting so many new systems again in TFS.

Bounties involving vanguard, crucible and gambit will be deleted once the dlc launches. So if you have them saved, claim them between now and when the dlc starts.

Any other bounties will remain untouched.

The crucible, vanguard, and gambit bounties aren't the ones that you stack first for bounty prepping, you fill with them after you've done all the better ones.

If you can't use those to fill, a ton of other bounties in the game will still offer the same xp.

Claim the orange + green + blue ones, and find other bounties

It probably will be, anytime they change bounties/weekly stuff the amount of bright dust gets changed too

18

upvotes on reddit

NightmareDJK · 2 months ago

You just do anything that says “Weekly Bounty” that isn’t tied to a Seasonal, Event or Ritual activity on all 3 characters. This is stuff like Dares of Eternity, Destinations, and Hawthorne’s Clan Bounties. You can also have multiple weekly Dreaming City Ascendant Challenge bounties prepped for each Ascendant Challenge.

Again, don’t know how necessary this will be given what they told us about TFS.
