Thanks Fred-There were no other protection problems. The issue was I was told to get rid of norton the wrong way. Norton's uninstaller must be used. When it wasn't, there were still parts of the program deeply rooted in the system. Apple support helped walk me through it. Thank you for you time.

Norton may not be the problem.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was setto trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes yourupdated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allowFirefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Hey Fred-Sorry I wasn't more clear. I'm operating on a mac book pro. I removed norton or at least I thought I did from my laptop. However, when firefox updated to the latest version, it stopped being able to surf the web. So, I figured out how to remove the norton extension from firefox and relaunched hoping the problem would be solved. No luck. I then removed firefox and redownloaded it again thinking it would be fine. It recalled my previous history so still no luck being able to surf the web. Any clue?

thanks!

Did you check my last post?

There are two types of Add-ons. There are the Extensions that you find andinstall. And there are also Plugins. These are from other programs that areon your system when Firefox starts. Like video players, anti-virus, and manymore. You can disable normal Add-ons by going to the Add-ons Manager,

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager.Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

Select Extensions, locate the add-on. From here you can disable orremove it. Plugins, however, can only be set to Never or Ask.To remove it, you have to remove its program.

Not recommended. Please try other fixes first.Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product

I did see your initial post. And, I have disabled and/or removed norton from the add-ins and plug-ins where I could. Still, no luck surfing the web on firefox. Still stumped.

Okay, to clarify, I'm on a mac book pro and not a pc. Still, no go. I believe norton is still interfering with firefox but I have erased all forms of it from my laptop, as far as I can tell. I tried to delete firefox and reinstall but it still had my previous settings. Other suggestions? Thank you.
