thank you for that fantastic conversation. i appreciate that. donald trump at arlington national cemetery this week, a very blatant attempt to reclaim the spotlight he has been missing that kamala harris has moved to the top of the democratic ticket. this is what trump wanted you to see and to talk about. an image of him at the tomb of the unknown soldier, trying to look presidential, as he allegedly paid his respects to the 13 servicemembers who died three years ago in the bombing at abbey gate, during the u.s. withdrawal from afghanistan. but, trump and his campaign also used this occasion, and this hallowed space to make a not-so-subtle dig at the biden- harris administration. his campaign manager: one in -- one image "the photo that shook the world, reminding everyone to the real commander-in-chief is." that is what donald trump wanted his trip to arlington to be about.
6:02 pm
but, over the last few days, he has lost control of the narrative. and now, what everyone is talking about is this, how donald trump and members of his campaign staff ended up in section 60 of arlington national cemetery, the final resting place of service members who died in iraq and afghanistan, and in violation of the cemetery's rules. she used video of that hallowed space as part of a partisan photo op. and how his team physically pushed staff members after warning them that they were prohibited from taking pictures and video at that part of the barrier ground. for days, the trump campaign denied that a scuffle even happened, and went so far as to disparage that employee. saying that she was "suffering from a mental health episode" and also calling her "despicable." trump's campaign also promised to release video that would

6:06 pm
of the united states. now, for that reason, he was allowed to be there to participate with the families in the memorial event. she was allowed to have official photographers and videographers at the tomb of the unknown soldier. that is actually pretty common. there is frequent media coverage there, you frequent the media coverage of that. that part was not an issue here. after that event, though, katie, they moved onto section 60. the motorcade and several family members of those fallen servicemembers. that is where this incident occurred. now, the rules are very clear. you are not allowed to have videographers or photographers at section 60, collecting any kind of images. but, not just that. you cannot -- anything that anyone does there, whether it is the staff for former president trump, none of the video or contact -- contents that they collect is allowed to then be used in the capacity of his campaign. that is also very clearly written into the rules. but, the issue here, though, is
6:07 pm
that it's very difficult to enforce at the time. what we have learned in the last 48 hours or so is that that is where that incident occurred, when some of the staff got out of the trump motorcade to take photos and videos, one of the trump staff members, when he was confronted by the arlington national cemetery employee telling them that they could not take photos and videos, the staff member then pushed that arlington cemetery ploy. -- employee. the campaign put out a statement today that is frankly more forceful than we tend to hear from them, and it was clearly in defense of this arlington cemetery staff member, saying that she act professionally, really defending her actions here, and saying that what she did was to maintain the dignity and the respect of those hallowed grounds, as she called them, katie. >> you know, courtney, there is something very specific, though, about section 62 you briefly describe about why this
6:08 pm
particular section is of note, and why the focus is on that altercation that happened there? >> yeah, so, section 60 is -- i don't mean to imply that any part of arlington cemetery is not considered hallowed ground. but, it is the place where many of the servicemembers who have died or have been killed in the recent conflicts have been buried. that is why one of the servicemembers where we see the photo of former president trump standing at, one of the servicemembers who was killed in afghanistan in 2021. so, it has taken on even more of -- there are even stricter rules there for taking photos and videos. just so our audience understands exactly why that is, the staff in arlington cemetery and the department of the army in general, they want to make sure people aren't there taking photos of mourners. they want to protect the dignity and the privacy of people who might be there, who
6:09 pm
are still in a very real mourning situation. they may have lost loved ones, in recent years, and they don't -- they want to make sure they are not in any way exploited. so, it is not just campaigns or anything. it is media. media restrictions about what you can and cannot take video and photos of at section 60 are extremely strict and they are very strongly enforced, and have been for some time. that is one of the reasons why this really has had so much outcry, because of the fact that they were standing on the graves of individuals who had been killed or died in recent years, again. people are really actively mourning these servicemembers there, and some of those photos of them released on social media. and as you mentioned, there was even some video used in tiktok video for the campaign, katie. >> quickly, before i let you go, though, we have not received any reporting that trump, himself -- or, the trump campaign -- has reprimanded or said anything about that trump aide who physically assaulted an arlington cemetery employee, correct? >> correct.
6:10 pm
and we do know that the military police were called, right, as soon as that incident, the pushing, occurred. they came to the scene. they did take statements from at least one -- or, more likely several -- of the arlington cemetery staffers who were there, who saw what happened, including the individual involved. they did approach some of the trump staff members, but there was no former statement given. i will say, in the statement we got from the department of the army today, they said that the staff member has decided not to press charges, and they consider this matter closed, katie. >> msnbc pentagon correspondent, courtney kube i appreciate you taking the time to explain everything about what happened at arlington with donald trump and your time tonight. thank you for being here. >> thank you. and joining the now is patrick murphy, former democratic congressman for pennsylvania. excuse me -- former acting secretary of the army, and a veteran of the iraq war.
6:11 pm
congressman, i want to start by thanking you, as always, for your service to you, and all veterans. i have to ask you, how offensive is it -- not just because you are a veteran, and the former acting secretary of the navy, but to have witnessed and hear what donald trump did in arlington national cemetery? >> yeah, katie, as courtney said, really, donald trump had complete disregard for our brother and sister veterans. katie, i think you know i served in iraq, is with the 82nd airborne division. our brothers and sisters who gave the ultimate sacrifice from afghanistan, iraq, are buried in section 60. it is a solemn ground. president trump, former president trump and his aides knew better. they didn't just disregard the law, the rules and regulations, they pushed aside a woman who was doing her job, part of an army team, for a campaign commercial, for a tiktok campaign commercial. i mean, how low can it get?
6:12 pm
i know a veteran named patrick, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in vietnam and it just -- not just breaks my heart, it makes my blood boil. because we have someone who thinks he is still above the law, we have someone who doesn't care about our veterans. when it was his chance to serve in vietnam, he got five deferments for a bone spur, he doesn't even remember what foot it was on. because my brother and sister veterans "losers and suckers." because the former secretary of defense and his chief of staff -- two different four star marine generals -- disparages them, in general manas and general kelly. general kelly lost his son in combat. she dishonors gold star families. he attacks people. and that is why this army civilian woman, who is just doing her job, who was pushed aside, doesn't want to give a statement, because she is worried about retaliation. well, let me tell you something.
6:13 pm
there are 100,000 veterans in my state of pennsylvania, and there is about 20 million veterans across pennsylvania, whose voices will be heard on november 5th, who say, no one is above the law in our country, especially a 30 four- time convicted felon, in john donald j trump. >> congressman, you talk a lot about how donald trump puts himself first, and how he wants to make sure he is going to get that photo op, no matter what it takes to be able to get that. a fellow veteran, that is currently out doing and stumping to be able to right the wrongs from a trump administration includes your friend former roommate, governor tim walz. there has been a lot of hate from the republicans, including jd vance -- who is also a veteran, by the way, who never saw combat -- but, there has been a lot of hay made from the republicans about governor walz's service in the military.

between democratic urban centers, and republican leaning rural areas. a challenge that also extends to nearby north carolina. while harris' running mate, minnesota governor tim walz joined kamala harris for the first leg of the georgia tour, today, he traveled to the tar heel state for campaign events. this marks the second visit by the democratic ticket to the state, since harris replaced joe biden. north carolina, mind you, is a state democrats haven't won since 2008. so, what is the strategy that is at play here? i've got the perfect people to ask. joining me now is former democratic congressman from louisiana, and former senior adviser to president biden, who is now co-chair of the harris-walz campaign. i'm also joined my my good friend, greg lucy, from the atlanta journal-constitution. i want to thank both of you gentlemen for being here

tonight. it is always good to see you, both. craig, let's start with you, my boots on the ground in georgia, as always. how significant is it, that we are seeing kamala harris and tim walz in that crucial battleground state of georgia, just 67 days away from election day? and talk briefly a little bit, greg, about how this looks different than other democratic tours you have seen? >> katie, not too long ago, democrats didn't even bother campaigning in georgia, period. it was such a republican lock. that started to change four years ago with president biden. president biden was focused on metro atlanta, and there is good reason for that. there is more than half of the state population. but, vice president harris is sending the signal that she intends to compete throughout the state. there are a lot of votes beyond central atlanta, particularly in smaller communities and in cities like savannah, but also in rural areas around there. this bus tour went to savannah and those areas, but also went
6:24 pm
to liberty county, which is a democratic leaning county, but there are a lot of people there who haven't been energized, a lot of people who stay home for elections. she is trying to wipe out that apathy in those spaces. this was not your typical campaign rally, at all. there were people lining up for hours before the event. there were people who stayed up outside, lining up throughout the campaign rally in savannah, because people were excited about the fact that no democratic presidential nominee has been to savannah for a campaign rallyxin decades. >> you know, cedric, this bus tour with kamala harris and tim walz is being compared to that '92 bubba for bill tour that bill clinton did, and we talked about the fact that we have these neighboring rural areas that are republican leaning. how persuasive is that energy? it is palpable. i mean, you can see it and feel it through these tv screens. how palpable do you think that is, in terms of getting that foot in the door to be able to have a conversation and get that messaging across to some republicans who might be rethinking donald trump? >> i think it is critical.
6:25 pm
and i think it shows what type of president that kamala harris wants to be. she said that there is room in this democratic party for republicans, for independence, and she is going to court their votes. and so, i think that her being in savannah, the tour in albany, forsyth, fayette county, i think the message is clear in georgia, that we are going to go to every community, we are going to ask for your vote, we will tell you what is in it for you, we will tell you about kamala harris' new way forward and what that means for you. and so, i believe that it is not just georgia. we will do that in all of the battleground states. we will do it in the sun belt states. but, it is what her big message is to everyone in the country. that is, we can all rise together. we don't have to pay urban and rural against each other, suburban, urban. it doesn't matter where you are from. we can all rise together, and i think that is the overwhelming message that this bus tour
6:26 pm
sent. and, we are not going to leave any neighborhood out. we are not going to concede any vote. we will go into any community to talk about how the policies she advocates for will help the people who live in that community. >> greg, you and i have spent a lot of time together covering trump. i feel like i am an honorary georgian at this point, with the amount of time i have spent in fulton county. i have to ask you, governor brian kemp, he is always that outlier for me, i have seen brad raffensperger and other georgian officials, kind of standing her ground and saying, i am not going to take a need to donald trump. brian kemp just got excoriated by trump the other day. trump just went after him, and yet there has got to be an event where kemp is going to be honored? is that why we are seeing governor kemp not really kind of stopping the state georgia election board that is doing these crazy rules about election certification? like, the voter suppression
6:27 pm
moves? >> yeah, katie, you are exactly right. governor kemp is trying to navigate this extremely tricky balance. on one hand, his voice is very influential in trying to moderate some of the far right efforts to, for instance, overturn georgia's election. on the other hand, even after donald trump denigrated him, his wife, called him a poor governor, a bad guy, all of these names that we haven't heard him call governor kemp for years, the governor still saying, i am going to back him. and literally just a few minutes ago, wrapped up appearing at a trump fundraiser. the former president wasn't there, but a number of trump's top allies in georgia were there along with former senator kelly leffler to demonstrate their loyalty to the president. >> we also need to talk about north carolina. we talked about at the beginning of this block, that we have tim walz spending time there, as well. talk about why roy cooper -- he shared at the dnc and in other
6:28 pm
moments that there is an optimism that north carolina can be carried and can be blue for this upcoming election. how viable is north carolina for the harris-walz campaign? >> i think it is very viable. we are building that diverse coalition to win the state, and we are taking on the message that says, look, if you just -- and you just referred to it -- donald trump is a fundamentally flawed candidate. he is a fundamentally flawed person. and i think people are starting to see that. if you look at north carolina, the gubernatorial nominee on the republican side is someone who is very unpopular, that people see unfit to be the governor of the tar heel state. all of those things are starting to come into play, and i think as we get closer and closer to election day, people have a choice to make, and it is going to be crystal clear. you have donald trump on one
6:29 pm
hand who wakes up every day only thinking about himself. and then, you have a harris- walz ticket, who will keep articulating how they want to help you, how they want to bring this country together, and i think that people are just gravitating toward the positive energy, and the joy of the campaign, as we go -- like the vice president said -- in a new direction. i think that is something that is resonating with people, and i think it is something that a lot of people underestimated. and i will tell you that i am even shocked, to some extent, about the importance of joy and happiness, and the fact that people are looking forward to better days ahead. and of course, that means tackling the challenges that the vice president articulated she would start tackling from day one. the economy, inflation, healthcare costs, all of those things. but, i don't think we should underestimate the positive nature of her campaign in contrast to the revenge and retribution that is coming from donald trump and his republican allies. >> cedric richmond and greg bluestein, thank you, both, for

running mate, jd vance, insisted that harris was some kind of welfare queen. today, vance posted this video from a 2017 miss usa pageant with the caption, "i have gotten a hold of the full kamala harris cnn interview." not to be outdone, donald trump amplified the racist, sexist attacks this week, posting the photo, which features kamala harris, hillary clinton, and in the caption, not suitable for this program. joining me now is angela reich, former executive director and general director of the black caucus, and cohost of the fantastic "native land podcast" . i am so glad to have you here. this is such an important conversation. we talk about misogyny and sexism all the time, talk about it in the context of donald trump, but let's be frank. when it comes to women of color, this particular vitriol that is received for women of color, by people like donald trump, jd vance, and other republicans. >> yeah.
6:45 pm
i think it is not even restricted to party, katie. i think you, as a woman of color. you, as an attorney of color, you certainly have seen it. it doesn't matter. we can say across the aisle, both sides of the aisle, it is a nonpartisan issue, racism and sexism in this country. that is the reason why kimberly crenshaw could coin a term "intersection audi," and it would be resident. the reality is, there are a lot of folks who create terms out of something as beautiful as diversity, equity, and inclusion, and change it to mean something like "didn't earn it," despite the fact that many of them didn't earn it, either. they earn it off of our backs, off of trust funds come off of legacy admissions, and all of the things that help to level the playing field on a field they never should be able to play on, themselves. and what we also know about kamala harris in particular, is she is by far the most qualified person to ever run for president.
6:46 pm
if folks have some facts that they like to hand it to us to show us why what i am saying is not true, i would love to see them. this is someone who won her district attorneys raise, this is someone who won her attorney general's race in the state of california. this is someone who ran against ed wyatt in california as the united states senator of california. she won that. and she didn't win her 2020 election bid, but she was so great of a candidate, that joe biden couldn't find a better running mate. so, what we have to come to terms with, is the fact that in this country, the demographics will continue to change, and there are people who have had to fight for everything they had ever obtained in this life. and because they have had to fight in that way, they are formidable opponents. the only thing that donald trump and jd vance can attack is kamala harris' appearance, questioning how she got to the top. it was by winning and fighting, right? everything about her is questioned, because they cannot go for her qualifications.
6:47 pm
so, instead, they go to character, they go to appearance, and they go to promiscuity, which is textbook sexism. >> you know, angela, too, you talk about this compare and contract. in 2016, donald trump, when he got busted for that "access hollywood," video, he said, that is just locker room talk, that is how people talk in a locker room. interestingly, we actually had a coach, a former football coach, who spent years in a locked room in tim walz, and he is not talking about women, he is not talking about women like that, at all. this has to resonate, doesn't it, angela, not just for the women of the united states, but for the men who are allies, and advocates, and speak for us in rooms we are not in? this has to resonate to see that there is an option available to americans in november where we don't have to have the disgusting pig of donald trump back in the oval office. >> yeah, i think what is really most important is for people to have those opportunities to
6:48 pm
check themselves, check their language, check on how they are thinking, even if they don't say the thing out loud. if so, whether we are talking about coach tim walz, now vp candidate tim walz, or we are talking about folks who know, again -- potty mouth are not a partisan issue, katie. i think we cannot lie to the american people about that. we have people -- probably in our respective fields -- where we are like, you probably don't want to say that. katie, sometimes, you are like, angela, you don't want to say that. right? there are those moments. what we have to be clear about is that there is no place for the types of language, for the types of imagery, for the types of caricature making in our political process. there is way too much on the line. we should not let jd vance and donald trump trivialize this process. we should not allow them -- if you have daughters at home, if you have nieces, goddaughter's, little cousins, a sister, a mom -- we all have moms -- don't let them speak about women in
6:49 pm
this way, right? if you have a queen in your life, make sure that they are talking about queens. if we are all standing together, there should be a certain way that we treat the women in our lives, and it should not look or be reflected like the way donald trump has spoken about women. and this is not new for him. she has been doing this long before he ever ran for office in 2016. it wasn't hillary clinton who brought it out of him. this is how he has been treating women his entire adult life. like property. and that is something that he learned from, i believe, his elders and his ancestors, right? like, this is what they believe, that women were titled, that black people were child, so this is what he is doing. >> angela, my friend, so good to see you. i thank you so much for having this very honest conversation with me about this very important issue. it is not, as you say, limited to just kamala harris and other women of color. it is a bigger problem and the
6:50 pm
symptom of a bigger problem, so thank you for being here to have this conversation. >> thank you. coming up, a stunning admission revealed in an antitrust case involving two of the country's largest grocery chains is shattering a key republican claim about inflation. more on that, next. listen to . one a day is formulated with key nutrients to support whole body health. one a day. science that matters. 6:55 pm
biden/harris administration has been working overtime on behalf of all americans, regardless of political party, to curb inflation, in part by taking direct aim at corporate price gouging. even just yesterday, the administration was in court trying to block a merger between two major grocery store chains, the administration argued this would mean less competition between grocery stores which would mean less competition for consumers or customers. allowing a new mega grocery store to set prices as high as it wants. during that hearing, the senior director admitted in a testimony that when it came to products like milk and eggs, kroger's raised prices more than they needed to, also known as price gouging. so yes, corporations really are raising prices on consumers more than they have to and the only reason we would know about it is because the biden/harris administration is working to hold them to account. joining us now, the founder and executive director of more
6:56 pm
perfect union and the former campaign manager for bernie sanders. explained to the viewers why this biden/harris administration move to block this merger is so important for all americans regardless of their political party. >> we know the competition is the lifeblood of the economy and when we have competition it creates small businesses or entrepreneurial, that means you have better quality products, and if you don't have that competition, what happens? you have a bunch of autocratic corporate leaders who will just try to be greedy and take as much as they can get. that is what you have with the kroger albertson's merger, they want to drive that competition in so many cities, jack up the price for all basic items and the testimony being provided by their own director pricing reveals that, that is their strategy, they want to crush the competition. and most people say well, what
6:57 pm
do you do about it? thankfully we do have an administration who is going aggressively at price-fixing by corporate monopolies, places like ticketmaster, apple, google, amazon, large conglomerates so small businesses can thrive. if we stay on this track, harris has pledged with a continuation on the price gouging and there is so much more to go after. >> i'm glad that you brought it up again, there was an email that we saw during the hearing, the head of pricing at kroger said on milk and eggs, retail inflation has been significantly higher than cost inflation, translation, we raised prices more than we needed to, but a kroger spokesperson told bloomberg, this cherry picked email covers a specific period does not reflect kroger's decade-long business model to lower prices for customers by reducing its
6:58 pm
margins. i mean, it is no secret, corporations took advantage of the pandemic and created greed inflation, but this is one of those smoking gun memorandums that we sometimes don't get to see unless pressed by things like the biden/harris administration to show their hands. >> right, to testify in court, and it's not just kroger, in the last few months, the doj has brought a suit against a company called real page that sets algorithmic pricing for corporate landlords so they can profit maximize and through that case, we found that the landlords love the products because it allows us to do price-fixing. that is what we find through the doj. and through another ftc investigation, they went after a big oil company called pioneer whose ceo, we find was colluding with opec overseas to set the price of oil high during the pandemic, we found
6:59 pm
this out because the ftc and the doj are on the case, and we are learning more about the price-fixing that is going up in just the past few years, we learned that chicken producer from the washington attorney general, bob ferguson were conspiring to raise the prices of chicken. one of the major producers of eggs in this country was found guilty by a jury for price- fixing. it is rampant in our economy and the only way you take it on is if you have competition in the economy. >> and let's just use people who are freaking out, by having kamala harris suggest that she's going to combat and get rid of price gouging, let's be clear, she is not saying she is going to randomly pick prices for your chickens and eggs and whatever, which she is going to make sure that there is administrative agencies that are going to be checking this
7:00 pm
and making sure and gatekeeping so that corporations aren't allowed to just set the price as whatever they want to and american consumers are protected, right? >> yes, and i would add that the government has always used price negotiation so you can't just get away with the exorbitant price abuse, and we see that in the electric markets and the water markets, how do you think those rates are set? because the government plays a role in them. the department of defense negotiates prices. medicare is negotiating prices with pharma. this is how we prevent being gouged.>> faiz shakir , it is good to see you and i appreciate you taking the time to clarify and analyze this because this impacts everybody and we thought it was really important to have this conversation tonight, so thank you. that is our show for tonight, you can catch me on saturdays at noon ea
